Cooperation Between Australia and Vietnam
to Establish an Advisory Committee for Logistics Training

 

Implementing the Viet Nam – Australia Human Resource Development Program, the Government of Australia (GOA), the Ministry of Labor - Invalids and Social Affairs of Vietnam (MOLISA) and Vietnam Chamber of Commerce and Industry (VCCI) hold a seminar, dated December 14th 2017, to introduce the Advisory Committee for Logistics Training in order to encourage businesses to join Vocational Education and Training Activity. Vien Dong College has its representative, MA. Nguyen Hong Trang, Vice Rector, selected to be a member of the Committee.

The Committee members will study Australia’s experience in the development of Vocational Education Training and adjust it to suit the status quo of Vietnam by promoting active participation of business community into the Activity.

According to Mr. Craig Chittick, Australia’s Ambassador to Vietnam, Australia is very delighted to share Vocational Education and Training experience in relevant sectors to help Vietnam set up a suitable system. The training system in Australia has developed for few decades on the national model of skills-based benchmarks with reference information from training sectors, which is aimed to enhance the training quality and meet human resource demand of working fields, businesses and individuals.

“The Advisory Committee’s formation is a creative approach to attract more active participation from logistics enterprises into Vocational Education and Training Activity”, said Mr. Vo Tan Thanh, Vice President of VCCI, General Director of VCCI in Ho Chi Minh City.

The Committee will approve standards of occupational skills adopted in Transport and Logistics Project of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) chaired by Australia and Vietnam is the first member. Basing on these standards, Vocational Schools in Vietnam will develop suitable short-term and long-term training programs for supplying Logistics labor force.

Logistics is selected as a pilot, and the model can be applied to other sectors in Vietnam. This choice has a base on the participating willingness of related leading organizations, the important role of logistics in the development of Vietnam, the trading cooperation between Australia and Vietnam, as well as occupational standards mentioned on in the APEC Project, period 2014-2016.

Following the introducing ceremony is the first training course on the development of training system based on performance capacity of professional leaders, senior lecturers at some Vocational College and Logistics Training Institutes.

Knowledge and skills given in the course to build performance-based curricula for 5 jobs, i.e. Warehouse operator, Warehouse supervisor, Logistics Administrative, Freight Forwarder and Other Forklift Operator.
