WORKSHOP “USING AI TO SUPPORT EFFECTIVE TEACHING AND LEARNING”

On August 25, Viễn Đông College participated in the workshop “Using AI To Support Effective Teaching And Learning” organized by the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Education and Training, in collaboration with RMIT University Vietnam, the NEAS Quality Assurance Organization, and the Study Melbourne Hub Education Center.

WORKSHOP “USING AI TO SUPPORT EFFECTIVE TEACHING AND LEARNING”

The workshop aimed to provide teachers guidance and solutions to help students become familiar with and take advantage of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in learning English, thereby improving the quality of foreign language teaching and learning in the context of digital transformation.

It highlighted outstanding applications of AI in language learning, including:

  • Conversation and Tutoring
  • Pronunciation and speech recognition
  • Multi-modal/multi-lingual learning support
  • Content and lesson creation
  • Assessment creation and design
  • Translation and adaptive learning

In addition, the limitations of AI were analyzed from multiple perspectives:

  • Technical: Datasets are sourced in English and guesswork is not real human reasoning.
  • Ethical: risks related to privacy & security; guesswork is not always fair or inoffensive and academic integrity issues
  • Affordability & sustainability: most AI tools are currently free, but long-term availability is uncertain and the best guesswork is on custom-built datasets.
  • Pedagogical: AI is only a supporting tool and cannot replace teachers in sensing, adapting, and inspiring learners.

Notably, the panel discussion session on “Artificial Intelligence in Education”, featuring Mr. Hossein Davari (RMIT), and Ms. Hồ Thị Mỹ Linh (Hoa Sen University), facilitated by Adam Mr. Adam, focused on issues such as: the meaning of authorship and the right to ownership of content, key concerns about AI in an educational setting, responsibilities of educators and how these responsibilities sensibly exercise in an age of AI.

Viễn Đông College’s participation in the workshop was not only an opportunity for lecturers to approach advanced educational trends but also a demonstration of the college’s commitment to innovating teaching methods, applying technology in training, and accompanying the development of Vietnamese education in the digital era.
