On March 31st, at Children’s Hospital 2, the Faculty of Medicine, Pharmacy, and Aesthetics of Vien Dong College successfully organized a specialized seminar titled: “Clinical Simulation – A Solution to Enhance Medical and Pharmaceutical Training Quality.”
This practical initiative aims to update modern training trends while strengthening the connection between the college and the hospital environment—the direct site for training and employing high-quality medical human resources. The program was attended by the Hospital Board of Directors, the Head of Nursing, Chief Nurses, and the medical team currently working across various departments.
In a context where the healthcare industry increasingly demands high levels of practical skills and clinical management capabilities, the Faculty of Medicine, Pharmacy, and Aesthetics identifies innovative teaching methods as a core mission.
The application of clinical simulation is considered an effective solution, helping students hone professional skills in a safe environment, enhancing clinical thinking and reflexes, and building confidence before interacting with real patients.
The focal point of the seminar was the introduction of the SAM4 simulation model, a modern training device currently being integrated into the curriculum. SAM4 is a comprehensive auscultation system capable of authentically reproducing a wide range of clinical sounds, including 37 heart sounds (both physiological and pathological), 11 heart-lung combinations, 26 lung sounds, 9 bowel sounds, and 6 bruit sounds. Beyond its auscultation functions, the device integrates ECG waveform displays corresponding to heart sounds, helping learners understand the relationship between cardiac electrical activity and acoustic manifestations during examination.
Notably, SAM4 simulates a palpable carotid pulse, supporting the practice of pulse-taking and circulatory assessment in a visual and highly realistic clinical manner. Regarding operation, the device is flexibly controlled via smartphones or computers (compatible with both iOS and Android), allowing instructors to easily create diverse simulation scenarios tailored to specific training objectives.
The application of SAM4 in teaching brings practical value to students of the Faculty of Medicine, Pharmacy, and Aesthetics by:
Providing access to clinical scenarios ranging from basic to complex.
Enhancing comprehensive auscultation and physical examination skills.
Developing accurate and logical diagnostic thinking.
Minimizing errors during real-world patient practice.
Organizing the seminar at Children’s Hospital 2 further affirms Vien Dong College’s commitment to practice-oriented training. Close coordination between the college and hospitals contributes to a modern, professional learning environment, enabling students to gain early exposure to clinical reality and improve their vocational competence.
In the coming period, the Faculty of Medicine, Pharmacy, and Aesthetics will continue to invest in and expand the use of advanced simulation technologies like SAM4. This effort aims to standardize practical skills according to modern benchmarks, enhance comprehensive training quality, and meet the demand for high-quality medical human resources both domestically and internationally. The seminar was not only an opportunity to update technology but also a demonstration of the college’s strong commitment to educational innovation, placing the learner at the center and clinical practice as the foundation for sustainable development.
